• Isoproterenol, also known as isoprenaline, is a nonselective beta-adrenoceptor agonist. The drug is used to treat bradydysrhythmias and to evaluate electrophysiology in a supervised clinical setting. Structurally, the drug resembles epinephrine. Isoproterenol was first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the United States in 1947. Both FDA-approved and off-label indications for isoproterenol are mentioned below.
• Drugs that selectively bind to and activate beta-adrenergic receptors.
• Agents that cause an increase in the expansion of a bronchus or bronchial tubes.
